What is Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP) server?

ICAP is a transport protocol that allows administrators to send specific HTTP traffic to another service that can modify the content of that traffic. When used in a data loss prevention context, ICAP servers are typically set up to filter inbound traffic and monitor for any content or data policy violations before allowing the traffic to proceed. If a violation is detected, the ICAP server can block, change or warn about the content depending on your organization’s requirements.
