JSCAPE Cares empowers employees with the ability to choose the charitable organizations JSCAPE supports. Leo Salas, Senior Sales Associate, decided to donate to Friends of the Osa (FOO).

FOO is a nonprofit conservation organization founded to protect the biodiversity of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. The peninsula is located 5 hours southwest of the capital and is home to 50% of species found in Costa Rica. It is a largely untouched, remote wilderness with a very high level of biological diversity coupled with 13 distinct tropical ecosystems.

The orgranization's goal is to ensure the maintenance, restoration and long-term viability of the ecosystems on and around the Osa Peninsula. FOO actively conserves 4,200 acres of rainforest through direct land stewardship and their Osa Biodiversity Center.

They are also known for their Sea Turtle Conservation Program. FOO staff along with volunteers work to guarantee the health and ecological success of the sea turtles nesting on the Osa Peninsula by integrating conservation, research and educational outreach. Volunteers come from all over the world to help save sea turtles. The program has protected more than 16,000 sea turtle hatchlings over the last two nesting seasons.

After his donation, Leo was invited to see first hand how donations are benefiting Costa Rica's famed Osa Penninsula. The trip proved to be a real adventure. He was impressed by FOO's work and commitment to protecting the environment. He enjoyed it so much that is now planning a return trip.
